"The Atomic States Of America"

Is a new anti-nuclear propaganda documentary which is pretty much like old anti-nuclear propaganda documentaries.  It was covered by an anti-nuclear show called Democracy Now!

Let's dig in!

As expected there's references to Three Mile Island.  What differentiates this one from older "documentaries" is Fukushima, because it hadn't happened yet when the earlier propaganda was produced.

At 39:00 minutes, it's funny where the guy says that Brookhaven is the ONLY source of radiation!

Here's a shocker...the book author (at about 40:05) says that 1 in 9 people have breast cancer (that was back in the 1980's but now she thinks it's "1 in 6 or 7"?).  Guess what the baseline risk is? Look at Table 12-4 from BEIR VII, which is the baseline risk without excess radiation, and take 100,000 and divide by 12,000 (from the row "Breast" under the column "Incidence" & "Females" and you get 1 in 8.

Around this same time, there is some discussion of rhabdomyosarcoma.  There is NO link between this cancer and radiation specifically.

It's also funny when the book author discusses Brookhaven's library (about 44:25) saying "no one can get into it", and then tells us they let her into it so she could make copies of whatever she wanted.  Of course internal memos are going to talk about how much information to tell the community.  Thanks to fear mongering "documentaries" like this one, people are unnecessarily afraid.

And then there's the "dots on a map".  Guess what?  People get sick, map it.  You can map people getting sick around anything.  And then you can think that the anything is what caused people to get sick.  But that doesn't make it so.
